About me

I'm Kieran Wright, a Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire.

My approach combines clinical hypnotherapy with a strong foundation in psychology, allowing me to tailor sessions to the individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

My professional background spans more than three decades in IT, including working with Fortune 500 companies. Throughout my career, I have used my knowledge of psychology to help people develop their potential, and I bring the same analytical, evidence-informed approach to my therapeutic work.

Every client is different, so I take a personalised approach rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution. I take privacy and confidentiality seriously, and I aim to provide a comfortable, respectful environment where you can feel safe to explore the issues that matter to you. My aim is to provide a confidential, welcoming environment where you can feel heard, respected and supported throughout the therapeutic process.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation in which you remain aware and in control throughout. It can provide an opportunity to explore thoughts, feelings, memories and patterns of behaviour from a different perspective.

By working directly with the subconscious, hypnotherapy can help uncover root causes and support lasting transformation.

Hypnotherapy for Weight Management

Weight Management Isn’t Just About Calories.
truggling with weight—through yo-yo dieting, emotional eating, or feeling stuck despite your efforts—isn't necessarily about laziness or a lack of discipline. For some people, eating patterns can become closely connected with emotions, stress, self-doubt, comfort or a desire for control. Hypnotherapy provides a calm, focused space to explore these patterns and consider what may be maintaining them. Cravings or overeating can sometimes become ways of seeking comfort or relief from difficult emotions such as anxiety, loneliness, boredom or low self-worth. Understanding what sits behind these patterns can make it easier to develop healthier ways of responding.

Uncover What Food May Really Be “Feeding”.
Sometimes eating patterns are connected to needs that go beyond physical hunger—perhaps comfort, emotional reassurance, stress relief or a sense of control. In hypnosis, you can explore the thoughts, feelings and associations surrounding particular foods or eating behaviours, helping you understand what they may represent for you. Rather than approaching food through restriction, guilt or willpower alone, this process can help you develop greater awareness of emotional hunger and make choices that are more consistent with your long-term goals.

Work With Your Mind, Not Against It.
Hypnotherapy isn't about imposing rigid rules or relying on willpower alone. In a relaxed, focused state, you can rehearse making choices that support your goals, develop greater awareness of cravings and emotional triggers, and strengthen your confidence in responding differently. The aim is to make healthier behaviours feel increasingly familiar and achievable, rather than creating another cycle of restriction and self-criticism.

Create Sustainable Change.
The aim isn't simply to change what you eat, but to understand and change the patterns that may have been making weight management difficult. As your relationship with food becomes more balanced, you may find greater confidence, self-awareness and freedom from the emotional struggle that can surround eating.

Weight Loss Injection Support Isn’t Just About Appetite.
Medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide can play an important role in weight management by affecting appetite and helping people make changes to their eating patterns. But changing established habits and your relationship with food can involve more than appetite alone. For some people, emotional eating, cravings, stress, boredom or long-established habits can continue to present challenges. Hypnotherapy can provide additional psychological support alongside appropriate medical treatment, helping you explore these patterns and develop healthier ways of responding.

Explore What May Be Holding You Back.
Even when appetite is reduced, established patterns of eating can sometimes remain. You may find yourself eating in response to stress, boredom or loneliness, or struggling with the psychological adjustments that can accompany significant changes in weight. Hypnotherapy can help you explore these patterns from a calm, focused perspective and identify what you may actually be seeking from food—whether that is comfort, distraction, relaxation or reassurance.

Work With Your Mind Alongside Your Treatment.
Hypnotherapy doesn't replace medication or medical advice. Instead, it can complement your existing weight-management approach by helping you develop greater awareness of cravings and triggers, rehearse healthier responses and build confidence around the changes you are making. The aim is to support the psychological and behavioural side of weight management while your medical treatment is managed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Support for Sustainable Change.
Weight-management medication can address important aspects of appetite and metabolism, while psychological support can help you work with the habits, emotions and thought patterns surrounding food. Used appropriately alongside medical care, hypnotherapy may help you feel more confident and in control as you develop a healthier long-term relationship with food. Long-term weight management involves more than changes on the scales. Developing sustainable eating behaviours and understanding the psychological factors that influence food choices can be an important part of maintaining progress. Hypnotherapy can provide a supportive space to explore these patterns and help reinforce the behavioural changes you are working towards.

Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss Injections Support

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety and Stress

We live in an increasingly hectic world which, at times, can be challenging to negotiate. Anxiety and stress are often signs that the psyche is struggling to keep its inner balance, with conscious attitudes and unconscious forces pulling in different directions.

Anxiety and Stress Aren’t Just “Nerves”.
We live in an increasingly hectic world which, at times, can be challenging to negotiate. Anxiety and stress can affect our thoughts, emotions, physical wellbeing and behaviour, particularly when demands remain high for long periods. Sometimes the way we respond to pressure can also be influenced by beliefs, experiences and patterns that operate outside our immediate awareness. Hypnotherapy provides a calm, focused environment in which you can explore these patterns without having to analyse everything intellectually.

Uncover Hidden Patterns Behind Your Stress.
Stress can be maintained by patterns such as perfectionism, self-criticism, difficulty setting boundaries, a strong need to please others or persistent worry about getting things wrong. These patterns don't necessarily mean that something is “wrong” with you—they may simply be ways of responding that have become deeply familiar. Hypnotherapy can help you step back from these patterns and consider whether they are still serving you.

Reconnect With Your Inner Resources
Rather than treating anxiety as something that simply needs to be suppressed, hypnotherapy can help you develop a different relationship with anxious thoughts and physical sensations. You can practise responding to stressful situations with greater calm, perspective and flexibility, while reconnecting with qualities such as confidence, self-trust and emotional balance.

Develop Greater Calm and Resilience.
The aim isn't to eliminate every stressful feeling. Stress is a normal part of life. Instead, the aim is to help you develop greater choice in how you respond, so that difficult situations feel more manageable and you can recover more effectively when pressure builds.

Hypnotherapy for Phobias and Fears

Phobias and Fears Aren’t Random.
Phobias and intense fears can produce powerful physical and emotional reactions, sometimes far greater than the situation itself might seem to warrant. The response can become learned and automatic, with particular situations, objects or experiences triggering an immediate sense of threat. Hypnotherapy can provide a calm and focused environment in which to understand your response and begin developing a different relationship with the fear.

Explore What Fear Means To You.
Sometimes a fear is connected to a particular experience, belief or association. At other times, there may be no obvious explanation for why a particular trigger has become so powerful. Rather than assuming there is a single hidden cause, hypnotherapy allows us to explore what the fear represents for you and how your mind currently responds to it.

Work With Your Mind’s Response.
In hypnosis, you can practise approaching your trigger from a position of greater calm and control. Depending on the nature of the fear, this may involve imagery, mental rehearsal and gradual changes in the way you experience the trigger. The process is always collaborative and paced according to what feels appropriate for you.

Move Forward With Greater Confidence.
The aim isn't simply to “get over” your fear. It's to help you feel more capable and less controlled by your automatic response, giving you greater freedom to approach situations that may previously have felt overwhelming.

Unwanted Habits Aren’t Simply About Willpower.
Smoking, overeating, compulsive scrolling, nail-biting and other repetitive behaviours can become deeply established patterns that are difficult to change, even when you genuinely want to stop. These behaviours may sometimes be connected with stress, boredom, anxiety, emotional regulation or simply the familiarity of a well-rehearsed habit.

Understand What the Habit Is Doing For You.
A behaviour can sometimes provide a sense of relief, distraction, comfort or control, even when its longer-term consequences are unwanted. Exploring what happens immediately before, during and after the behaviour can help reveal the role it has come to play in your life.

Work With Your Mind’s Capacity For Change.
Hypnotherapy can help you rehearse responding differently to familiar triggers, strengthen your motivation and develop greater confidence in your ability to make different choices. Rather than relying on willpower alone, the aim is to make healthier responses increasingly familiar.

Build Greater Freedom And Self-Control.
The goal is not simply to suppress an unwanted behaviour, but to understand the pattern and create more choice around it. As the old behaviour becomes less automatic, you can begin to experience greater confidence and freedom in deciding how you want to respond.

Hypnotherapy for Addictions and Unwanted Habits

Hypnotherapy for Insomnia

Insomnia Isn’t Just About Not Being Able To Sleep.
Lying awake at night, having a racing mind or waking feeling exhausted can be incredibly frustrating. Stress, anxiety, changing routines, learned sleep patterns and worrying about sleep itself can all contribute to difficulties with sleeping. Hypnotherapy provides a calm environment in which to explore the thoughts, habits and responses that may be keeping your mind active at night.

Explore What May Be Keeping Your Mind Awake.
Sometimes the difficulty isn't simply falling asleep. You may find yourself anticipating another poor night's sleep, worrying about tomorrow, replaying conversations or feeling that you have to force yourself to sleep. These patterns can create a cycle in which frustration and alertness make relaxation more difficult. Hypnotherapy can help you step out of that cycle and develop a more relaxed relationship with bedtime and sleep.

Work With Your Natural Capacity to Relax.
Hypnosis can help you practise deep relaxation, reduce mental overactivity and develop calming responses that you can use as part of your bedtime routine. Rather than trying to force sleep, the aim is to create the conditions in which sleep can occur naturally.

Develop a More Restful Relationship With Sleep.
The aim isn't to “knock you out”, but to help you become more comfortable with relaxation and reduce some of the mental and emotional patterns that can interfere with sleep.

Smoking and Vaping Aren’t Simply About Willpower.
Nicotine use can become a powerful combination of physical dependence, learned behaviour and deeply established routines. Particular situations, emotions, places or social cues can automatically trigger the desire to smoke or vape. Hypnotherapy can help you explore these patterns, strengthen your motivation to change and develop new responses to the situations in which you would previously have reached for nicotine.

Understand Your Triggers.
For some people, nicotine becomes associated with particular experiences—perhaps taking a break, managing stress, socialising, concentrating or simply having something familiar to do. Identifying these associations can help you understand when and why cravings occur.

Work With Your Motivation To Quit.
In hypnosis, you can rehearse responding differently when cravings arise, strengthen your reasons for quitting and develop confidence in navigating situations that previously felt difficult. The aim is to help your new, nicotine-free behaviour become increasingly familiar.

Move Forward Nicotine-Free.
Stopping smoking or vaping can be challenging, particularly when physical dependence and long-established routines are involved. Hypnotherapy can provide psychological support as you make that change, helping you build confidence, motivation and greater freedom from the habit.

Hypnotherapy for Smoking and Vaping

Hypnotherapy for IBS

IBS Isn’t Just a “Gut Thing”.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can involve symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, changes in bowel habits and urgency. For many people, symptoms can be influenced by a combination of physical, dietary and psychological factors. The relationship between the gut and the brain is complex, and stress can sometimes contribute to how symptoms are experienced. Hypnotherapy cannot diagnose or treat the underlying medical causes of IBS, but it can provide psychological support and may help you develop a calmer relationship with your symptoms and the situations that can trigger them.

Explore the Relationship Between Stress and Symptoms.
You may notice that your symptoms become more difficult during periods of pressure, uncertainty or anxiety. Exploring these patterns can help you understand your own triggers without assuming that your symptoms are “all in your head”. Hypnotherapy can provide a calm environment in which to practise relaxation, develop greater confidence around your symptoms and reduce some of the anxiety that can accompany unpredictable digestive problems.

Work With the Gut-Brain Connection.
Hypnotherapy can incorporate relaxation, visualisation and focused attention to help you develop a greater sense of calm and control around your digestive symptoms. The approach is personalised and works alongside, rather than instead of, appropriate medical and dietary advice.

Feel More In Control.
The aim isn't to suggest that IBS is psychological, but to recognise that the mind and body influence one another. For some people, reducing stress and changing their response to symptoms can form a useful part of managing life with IBS.

Hypnotherapy for Procrastination

Procrastination Isn’t Just About Time Management.
Struggling to get things done—putting things off, avoiding difficult tasks, or feeling stuck despite knowing what needs to happen—isn't necessarily about laziness or poor discipline. Procrastination can sometimes be a way of avoiding uncomfortable feelings such as uncertainty, overwhelm, boredom, failure or self-doubt. Hypnotherapy provides a calm, focused space to explore what may be maintaining the pattern and begin moving beyond the cycle of pressure, guilt and self-criticism.

Uncover What You’re Really Avoiding.
Procrastination can sometimes disguise deeper concerns—perhaps delaying a task because getting it wrong feels unbearable, endlessly preparing because you fear being judged, or staying busy with easier things to avoid what really matters. In hypnosis, you can explore what happens internally when you think about taking action and consider what your mind may be trying to avoid or protect you from.

Work With Your Mind.
Hypnosis doesn't rely on forcing yourself to “just get on with it”. It can help you rehearse beginning tasks with greater calm and confidence, reduce the grip of perfectionism and make taking the first step feel more manageable. Small actions become easier to initiate, allowing momentum to replace resistance.

Take Action, Find Freedom.
The outcome? You don't simply become more productive—you can become less burdened by the emotional weight of avoidance. The aim is to help you start sooner, follow through more consistently and develop greater confidence in your ability to take action.

Dreams Can Offer a Window Into Your Inner World.
Your dreams are like a direct line to your deeper mind, showing emotional struggles, fears, or stuck patterns through colourful stories and symbols—not plain facts. In hypnotherapy, the calm, focused state lets you safely step back into the dream, spot details you missed, and really feel what was going on. This often uncovers how the dream is balancing out lopsided habits in your daily life or pointing to old unfinished business that’s quietly fuelling anxiety or avoidance.

Explore Dream Symbols as Living Images.
Dream images can be deeply personal. A house, car, body of water, animal or unfamiliar person may carry very different meanings for different people. Rather than relying on a generic dream dictionary, we can explore what the image means to you and what feelings, memories or associations it evokes. This can create a richer understanding of the dream and its possible relationship to your current circumstances.

Decode the Meaning Together.
Dream interpretation is collaborative rather than prescriptive. We explore the dream alongside your personal associations, current circumstances and emotional responses, considering different possible meanings rather than assuming there is one definitive interpretation.

Turn Insights into Meaningful Change.
A dream may sometimes highlight an emotional pattern, unresolved question or perspective that has been difficult to see clearly. These insights can then inform therapeutic work, helping you consider new ways of responding in waking life.

Resilience

Resilience Isn’t Just About Coping.
Working in a demanding environment—whether in IT, the NHS, or another high-pressure organisation—can mean constantly managing competing priorities, tight deadlines, uncertainty, responsibility and the needs of others. Over time, even highly capable people can find themselves feeling emotionally drained, detached or unable to switch off. This isn't necessarily a sign of weakness. It can be a sign that the strategies that have helped you cope up to now are no longer sustainable. Hypnotherapy provides an opportunity to step out of the constant pressure, reconnect with your internal resources and explore what genuine resilience means for you.

Uncover What’s Really Draining You.
Burnout isn't always simply about having too much to do. There may also be patterns such as perfectionism, an overwhelming sense of responsibility, difficulty saying no, fear of letting others down or a belief that you must keep going regardless of how you feel. In hypnosis, you can explore these patterns from a calm perspective, identifying the internal pressures that may be keeping you in a constant state of “survival mode”.

Reconnect With Your Inner Resources.
Resilience doesn’t mean becoming harder or learning to tolerate ever-increasing levels of stress. It means developing a more flexible relationship with pressure, recognising when to act, when to pause, and when to let go. In hypnosis, you can rehearse responding to demanding situations with greater calm and perspective, strengthen your ability to mentally switch off, and reconnect with qualities you may have temporarily lost sight of—confidence, clarity, self-trust, humour, perspective, and emotional balance. The aim isn’t to give you more armour; it’s to help you access the resources already within you.

Build Resilience, Not Resistance.
The outcome? You don’t simply become better at surviving pressure—you develop a healthier capacity to navigate it. You may begin to feel more grounded, less reactive and better able to separate your identity from your workload or professional responsibilities. Instead of constantly running on empty, you can begin to recognise your limits, protect your energy, and meet life’s demands with greater clarity, flexibility, and confidence.

Confidence Isn’t Just About Knowing Your Subject.
You can be knowledgeable, experienced and perfectly capable—and still find yourself becoming anxious when all eyes are on you, particularly when presenting to senior colleagues or people whose opinion matters to you. Your mind may race, your heart may quicken and suddenly the words you knew so well can seem harder to find. This isn't necessarily a lack of ability. It can be your mind's automatic response to perceived judgement, criticism or the possibility of getting something wrong. Hypnotherapy can help you explore these responses and develop a greater sense of confidence and control.

Uncover What Your Anxiety Is Really Saying.
Presentation anxiety can be accompanied by thoughts such as “I must get this right”, “They'll see that I'm not good enough” or “I can't afford to make a mistake”. Sometimes the anxiety is less about speaking itself and more about what being judged or challenged might mean to you. In hypnosis, you can explore these beliefs from a calm, focused state and begin separating the genuine importance of the situation from some of the emotional weight attached to it.

Let Your Natural Authority Come Through.
Confidence doesn’t mean becoming louder, more dominant, or pretending not to feel nervous. It means being able to remain connected to yourself while speaking with clarity and conviction. In hypnosis, you can mentally rehearse walking into the room feeling grounded, meeting the gaze of senior colleagues, finding your words naturally, and responding calmly when challenged. Your subconscious begins to become familiar with the experience of being seen, heard, and taken seriously—without needing perfection.

Speak With Confidence, Be Heard With Clarity.
The outcome? You don’t simply become better at giving presentations—you develop greater trust in yourself. You may find yourself speaking more naturally, thinking more clearly under pressure and feeling more comfortable expressing your ideas to people in positions of authority. Instead of focusing on how you are being perceived, you can become absorbed in what you actually want to communicate—standing in front of others with greater presence, composure, and confidence.

FAQ

It’s completely natural to have questions about hypnotherapy. Many people only know hypnosis from stage shows, where volunteers appear to do strange or silly things. Clinical hypnotherapy is very different. It’s a calm, collaborative, and therapeutic process designed to help you create positive change in a safe and supportive environment.

What happens in the first session?
The first session is usually a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what brings you to therapy, and agree on what you want help with. It also gives you time to ask questions and see whether I feel like the right fit for you.

How long does a session last?
Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes, though this can vary depending on the type of therapy and your needs.

Why is it so expensive?
It's a fair question and deserves a comprehensive answer. While the session itself may last around an hour, what you're paying for is much more than that hour. A qualified hypnotherapist invests years in training, ongoing professional development, supervision, insurance, accreditation and maintaining a safe, confidential practice. Behind every session is time spent preparing, reflecting on your progress and continually developing the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective, evidence-informed support. Unlike many healthcare services, private hypnotherapy isn't funded by the NHS, so all of these costs are covered through session fees. It's also worth considering the value rather than simply the price. If therapy helps you overcome a difficulty that has affected your wellbeing, relationships or work for months or even years, many people find it represents a worthwhile investment in their quality of life. With that said, hypnotherapy isn't a quick fix, and no ethical therapist can guarantee results. Success depends on many factors, including the nature of the problem, your commitment to the process and the therapeutic relationship. My aim is always to provide compassionate, personalised support that gives you the best opportunity to make lasting, meaningful change.

Why choose Wright Hypnotherapy?

It's a fact that there are several therapists using the label 'hypnotherapist' but it's also a fact that many of them are unqualified, let alone accredited. I, on the other hand, am fully qualified with the Hypnotherapy In Practice Diploma (HPD) and the Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, with the additional solid foundation of an honours degree in Psychology (BSc) and am a member of and accredited with the National Council for Hypnotherapy. When you come to me, you can be assured that I will be drawing on not only theory but also lived experience. Having said all that, I would advise that, whoever you decide to partner with, you should thoroughly check their qualifications and accreditation.

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the nature of your concerns, your goals, and how quickly you feel ready to make changes. Some people benefit from a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term work.

What kinds of issues can therapy help with?
Therapy can help with anxiety, stress, low mood, confidence, phobias, sleep issues, grief, relationship difficulties, habits, and many other emotional or behavioural concerns.

Is everything I say confidential?
Confidentiality is a key part of therapy. What you share is treated in confidence, except in rare situations where there is a serious risk of harm or a legal requirement to share information.

Will I have to talk about everything straight away?
No. You set the pace. Therapy should feel safe and collaborative, and you only need to share what you feel comfortable discussing.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. Online sessions can be a convenient option if you prefer to work from home or cannot attend in person.

What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?
That’s completely normal. An initial consultation can help you decide whether therapy feels like a good fit and what approach might suit you best.
